Andy Anad Man of The Year
What is Man of the Year?

Each year, in communities across the country, dynamic, passionate candidates engage in a spirited competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Man & Woman of the Year” titles, by raising funds for blood cancer research. The candidates compete in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. Every dollar counts as one vote, and the titles are awarded to the man and woman with the most votes at the end of ten weeks; the top local fundraisers in the country win the national titles.
Man & Woman candidates are goal-oriented and compassionate. Their relentless efforts are focused on making life better for hundreds of thousands of patients battling blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
The funds raised by the Man and Woman of the year are used for:
Lifesaving blood cancer research Financial assistance to cover patient expenses for transportation, medication and testing Free educational materials and events for patients and their families Local programs such as Family Support Groups and First Connection, a peer-to-peer counseling program Comprehensive, personalized assistance through our Information Resource Center.
The campaign
The campaign lasts ten-weeks between February and June, during which participants use their talents, contacts and creativity to raise funds to help advance LLS’s mission. Chapter staff members meet with candidates to assist them in goal planning, and tips and success stories from past candidates are shared. Candidates are also encouraged to reach out to friends and contacts everywhere to form Candidate Campaign Support Teams who can help them extend their fundraising networks. Two full-page ads in USA Today are provided to support and thank the candidates, one to list candidates who have confirmed their candidacy by February 12th, a second to congratulate national and local winners.
During the campaign, the candidates will get to know local survivors who will inspire and motivate them in their fundraising – the Boy & Girl of the Year.
The campaign is interspersed with events and parties which will allow candidates the opportunity to get to know “the competition,” and other local business figures, and experience the energy and spirit that give this campaign its special flair.
